Weekend Quote from a Book - Procrastination |
Procrastination is the disease of our time. It is an energy-sucking, debilitating syndrome that robs us of our dreams, our self-respect, and our passion. And self-discipline is the only ticket out of this self-sabotaging pattern. Discipline can't be argued with. It can't be persuaded or manipulated. Discipline doesn't ask you if you feel like doing it. It doesn't even give you an option. The voice of discipline says, "This is the plan of action. I said I would do it, so I will". Discipline doesn't care what you think (sorry, it's not personal). It isn't the slightest bit interested in your excuses; it cares only about your success. We must cut into the illusion that not doing it today is an option. We must break free from any pattern of self-talk that wants to veer us away from following our structure and reaching our goals.

Free $100 on $25 initial deposit - PerkStreet Financial |
For a limited time, PerkStreet Financial is offering $100 bonus for opening a free checking account with no minimum balance and no monthly maintenance fee. To get $100, you need to open the account with at least $25 deposit and must open by 12/31/2009. The account must remain open for at least 3 months. PerkStreet Financial is part of the Bancorp Bank and is FDIC-insured. Offer is open to first time customers only.
To avoid $4.95 monthly maintenance fee, you must have at least one of the following activities each month: direct deposit, bill pay, or check card usage.
I opened the account a couple of days ago but at that time, the promotion was for $50 only, so this is a much better offer. However, the good thing was that I was able to fund the account with my Schwab Bank Credit Card which offers 2% cash back. So on $500 deposit, that's an extra $10 for few minutes of opening the account - not bad!

Weekend Quote from a Book - Thoughts |
Thoughts are things. Every thought has a consequence. No thought lives in your brain rent-free. Each thought is a pebble dropped into the pond of your life-the ripples are real. The more intense the thought, the more powerful the outcome. An angry thought gets picked up like a radio wave. People can sense it. Animals can smell it. The whole energy system surrounding you is infected. Weed out such thoughts.
Think positive thoughts, intensively. Grow enthusiastic images, boldly. Speak only wonderful words to yourself, constantly. Feel fantastic, NOW! This colors your view of the world. Like a magnet, you attract the resources necessary to manifest the world you desire.

Weekend Quote - No Social Security COLA increase for 2010 |
Our government has no problem finding hundreds of billions of dollars for welfare but god forbid they find any money for people that worked their asses off their whole life paying the money that carries these lazy people. You want to stop teenage pregnancy? Stop rewarding people for it. Let their own families carry the load.

Weekend Quote from a Book - Stock investing: Moat |
Even businesses with durable moats don't last forever. Thus, when using John Burr Williams's intrinsic value formula, we ought to limit the number of years we expect the business to thrive. We are best off never calculating a discounted cash flow stream for longer than 10 years or expecting a sale in year 10 to be at anything greater than 15 times cash flow at that time (plus any excess capital in the business).

Weekend Quote from a Book - God-Ordained Moments |
God has already prearranged times of increases, times of blessing. You will have opportunities to meet the right people, opportunities to advance in your career, opportunities to fulfil your dreams. You may not be experiencing any good breaks right now. May be you're stuck in a rut. But let me encourage you with this: In your future there are God-ordained moments. He has them planned out for you.
Too many people miss these moments. They tried and failed before, so they quit believing. Or they're distracted. There is so much clutter in their lives that they can't hear the still, small voice inside telling them: It's your moment of favor!
We have to be sensitive to God's timing. We may for years with nothing big happening, and then all of a sudden, a God-ordained moment comes along: You meet someone who changes your life, you get a loan to buy the house of your dreams, you are promoted to a new job.
In a split second, you are thrust years ahead.

How to fix the problem of upside down monitor display? |
Yesterday, when I turned on my Desktop computer, the monitor display was upside down. Similarly, the mouse was working in reverse - to point to any button on the right, I had to move the mouse to the left.
Initially, I thought it was because of some issue with the monitor. I played with the buttons on the monitor and tried to adjust various settings but to no effect - the display was still inverted, with all characters displayed upside down. I also right-clicked on the Desktop and checked the properties of the monitor but nothing worked. I finally hooked up the spare monitor but the problem persisted. However, now I knew that the problem was not with the monitor but with my PC itself.
Finally, after doing some research on the Web, I discovered the solution - I had to hit the Control-Alt-Up arrow keys and that resolved the issue. I guess, I accidentally must have hit some wrong key when hitting Control-Alt-Del but after I pressed the the Control-Alt-Up arrow keys simultaneously, the issue was resolved. Seems these keys will also resolve the issue if there is a sideways display on the monitor. While I have Windows XP, the above method may also resolve issues in Windows Vista.
If the above fix doesn't work, check out the tips on the following article:

As long as we are persistent in our pursuit of our deepest destiny, we will continue to grow. We cannot choose the day or time when we will fully bloom. It happens in its own time.
